Fred Cogswell: The Many-Dimensioned Self

by Tony Tremblay

The Golden Lure

An epicure will watch with gleea dying fish, and thrill to knowwhat living colours ebb and flowfrom a heart that bursts in agony.

Like him, your appetite is artwhere passion makes a daintier disheach time, as in that rainbow fish,it blazes from a broken heart.

So when, a golden lure, you breakthe liquid surface of my eye,the foolish fish of joy awakethen dart beneath to safety.

For there's one truth I've learned holds goodThat the merely loved can never share:Whoever drowns in water wouldNot wish a fish to drown in air.
